Hiram B. Clawson, (Hyrum’s Grandfather) was born on November 7, 1826, was a leader in the Nauvoo Legion where he assisted Daniel H. Wells. He was an “aide-de-camp” to General Wells in 1850 and later was named Adjutant General of the Nauvoo Legion in the 1960s.  As a very close friend of Brigham Young, he was a very successful businessman, even being President Young’s business manager. He joined the Church and moved to Nauvoo in 1841. He went west to Salt Lake City in 1848. Wikipedia says he “supervised the building of the first adobe building in Salt Lake City and then was the head mason for the Council House of which Truman Angell was the architect.” He also assisted Angell in the building of the Salt Lake Temple, and in building the Salt Lake Theatre. He also ran the department store, ZCMI, for a while. He had 4 wives, one of which was the daughter of Orson Spencer. His second wife was the mother of Rudger Clawson, who became an Apostle in the Quorum of the Twelve. His third and fourth wives were both daughters of Brigham Young.
This book was owned by Hiram Clawson’s grandson, Hyrum B. Clawson.
The book is in bendable leather; brownish in color; quite worn, notes and markings throughout. A few pages in the very back, of notes. Hyrum B. Clawson’s name engraved on the front cover, and on the clamshell box. The book is a bit worn but still in tact. It has his name stamped inside and many notes inside the front cover.
