1878 — The Conquest of New Mexico and California — P. St. Geo. Cooke — First Edition — No Map — Includes Information on the Mormon Battalion

$250.00

Important and scarce first edition of this work by Brigadier Brevet Major-General, George Cooke, on “An Historical and Personal Narrative” of the west.
Included is an account of travels of the Mormon Battalion, and the Mexican War.
First Edition published in New York by G. P. Putnam’s Sons.
The Map is missing [not included].
Binding is still solid and text is clean. There are signs of the book having been in a library, inside the covers and on the spine. There appears to have been a slight taping job on the page opposite the title page. There is some cracking of some pages, along the inner margin by the spine. Paper is a bit brittle.
Even in this good to fair condition, and missing the map, the book is still a nice specimen of this important early book on the Western United States.
Flake #2499, Howes C738, Streeter #182, Graff #869.
