From 1990 to 1998, Goaslind served as General President of the Young Men Organization, the worldwide program for teenage boys in the Church. During this time he emphasized mentoring, fatherhood, and preparing young men for missionary service and adulthood. His talks frequently stressed kindness, humility, and the importance of strong families.
Later he served in the Presidency of the Seventy, helping oversee the work of the Seventy quorums and church administration in different parts of the world. After being granted emeritus status in 2000, he continued speaking and participating in Church activities until his death on May 27, 2011.
