1831 ~ Life of David Marks ~ True First Edition ~ One of the Earliest Mentions of Mormons! — Red Leather!

$1,200.00

The Life of David Marks, To the 26th year of his age. Including The Particulars of his Conversion, Call to the Ministry, and Labours in Itinerant Preaching for Nearly Eleven Years. Written by Himself, Limerick, Me., Printed at the Office of the Morning Star. 1831. 396 pages.

Tissue between frontispiece and title page is half worn away. There is an ink inscription inside the front cover.  Some damp staining to some pages.  Binding is quite good with most wear along the edges; marbled end sheets; the free end sheet in the back is missing. The text seems clean. Boards are slightly warped but are in quite good condition, and somewhat decorative as well.

One of the earliest books ever to mention the Book of Mormon, the Witnesses, Joseph Smith, David Whitmer, etc. About three pages on the Mormons. [See pages 340-342.] His Memoirs were later published in 1846.

David Marks was a missionary for about 12 years, and learned a little about the Mormons while on his Christian Mission.

Good condition; some damp-staining and wear, but for its age quite nice. An extremely rare early book, much more rare than the First Edition Book of Mormon, published just one year before. A brief but very early commentary on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
