Extremely Rare & Important Historic Early Mormon Document; only 2 pages (1 leaf). pp.247-248.
Senate – 26th Congress, 1st Session. In Senate of the United States, March 4, 1840. Submitted, laid on the table, and ordered to be printed. Mr. Wall made the following REPORT: The Committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred the memorial of a delegation of the Latter Day Saints, commonly called Mormons, report: . . .
This 2 page document has clearly been dis-bound from a volume, so the left margin of page 1 is a bit torn. But the document is in pretty good condition otherwise.
Joseph Smith and the Church had petitioned the United States for redress or about $120,000 for damages incurred by the Saints being kicked out of Missouri in lieu of extermination.
This is the Senate document (only 2 pages) which gives the Mormons their answer. Its a fascinating short read and a major and rare little piece of Mormon history. Quite scarce!
