1853-1854 — The Seer — by Orson Pratt — Deep Burgundy Leather Binding — Liverpool Edition
$2,350.00
Deep burgundy leather; front and back boards completely detached but present, pages 15/16 is missing! Otherwise a good full complete run; obvious age damage, but text pretty good; binding is all there and could be repaired to look very nice.
Chipping at top and bottom of the spine. First few pages also detached from the text block, but present. Some page edges are slightly chipping and there is some obvious foxing to the pages, but overall in pretty good condition, and in leather no less!
This is one of the true early controversial classics! Brigham Young did not care for this volume. Orson Pratt wasn’t just an apostle, he was a scientist, and you could say “Orson’s mind went where no Mormon mind had gone before.” He wrote about Celestial vegetables and the incubation period for pregnant gods. He also argued that Jesus was a polygamist. Very unique!
Copies are usually in bad shape. This one has its problems but has a quite unique color and design on the boards and spine that we have not seen before.
