Description
100 pages of photographs; each page usually has about 4 photographs each. The name W. Y. Clayton is inscribed on the front of the album. The album is about 2-3 inches thick, oblong shaped with a string binding. Some pages don’t have photographs but there are most likely enough loose photographs it his album to fill them up as well. Some of the photographs were uniquely trimmed. This album also comes with two envelopes full of photograph/postcards of various missionaries from the mission. Elder Clayton’s RECORD OF MISSIONARY LABORS book is also included, which has headers that actually state BRITISH MISSION. The dates in the book clearly show 1923 and 1924. It includes reports from Johannesburg and Mobray, and contains several inserted reports called PERIODICAL REPORT OF MISSIONARY LABORS dated from 1926. This book also contains a section with names and addresses of many missionaries, including an Elder Miles P. Romney from Salt Lake, and an H.Lowell Crane from Pocatello, Idaho. One of the most unique features of this book is the far right column labeled Remarks, because it gives a real sense of what the Elders were doing on a day by day basis.
This is truly a unique collection and an important piece of Mormon history in South Africa.
