$25.00

1872; first edition; rusty-colored cloth hardbound; text is quite good; binding is quite worn along edges of boards; top part of spine is a bit torn (about an inch) but could be repaired and glued back down; wear at corners and edges; binding still good; clean text.
De Vere, M. Schele. Americanisms; The English of the New World. Charles Scribner & Company: New York, 1872.
The author introduced a ridiculous theory about where the name “Mormon” came from.  He said it comes from an author back in the 1600s named Montmor and that it means “a scarcrow!” Furthermore he said that Mormonism was the “most gigantic of all impostures since Mahomet’s days.”
