The Prophet of the Jubilee is Ronald D. Dennis’s English translation of Prophwyd y Jubili, a Welsh Latter-day Saint periodical edited by Dan Jones beginning in 1846. Rather than being a single biography, it functioned as a Church newsletter and doctrinal publication for Welsh-speaking Saints.
The original Welsh publication included sermons, doctrinal explanations, missionary reports, responses to critics, poetry, and news from Church headquarters in America. It played a major role in strengthening the rapidly growing Welsh LDS community during the mid-19th century. The title (“The Prophet of the Jubilee”) reflected the belief that Joseph Smith’s mission inaugurated a spiritual restoration and gathering.
Dennis’s translation preserves the full text of the periodical issues, along with helpful historical notes, making it an important resource for understanding early Mormon missionary work in Wales and the international spread of the Restoration.
